Oakland museum’s hip-hop exhibition twins with events from chess to barbershop chats

The next party, scheduled for April 6, features members of the DJ Project spinning tunes, dance performances by the all-female; Mini Mix’d, the all-girl youth company in the Mix’d Ingrdnts Dance Family; and a youth showcase in the 10th Street Amphitheater. The Grammy-nominated Alphabet Rockers and are slated to perform April 20. Off the Grid food trucks will also be on-site at each block party. Gallery admission is half-off for adults and free for those 18 and younger during these nights. Parking in the museum garage is $7.

The Oakland Museum of California plans to host several events tied to “Respect: Hip-Hop Style & Wisdom” with an aim to provide experiences that will immerse museumgoers in the world of hip-hop. Many of the events are free or included with special exhibition admission. Here are some of the highlights:
