In between The Seams

"Mix'd Ingrdnts, along with their new youth company Mini Mix'd, will exhibit content that will bring various concepts to connection and interconnection, especially the ones bridging the generational gap with those following in our footsteps. Nikki Renojo – Production Assistant

Nikki is a streetstyles dancer and dance teacher who has been learning the street styles since 2008. She started training Locking with Ceech Hsu and the DS Players in 2008 and the rest is history. Having travelled from LA to NYC to learn waacking and voguing from master teachers, she continues learning and practicing the styles she loves, and is intent on someday becoming a street dance historian to preserve the histories of the street styles. She has danced with the DS Players, Fresh Dynamix, is an alumnus of our very own Mix’d Ingrdnts, and these days partners with her best friend Karlita as the Waack Sisters to perform waacking duets, teach waacking classes, and produce fun waacking events for the dance community.

Gladys Liu – Production Assistant/Social Media Manager

Gladys grew up in the Bay Area, CA. Although trained in classical ballet and traditional Chinese dance, her current passion lies in House, Locking, Waacking and other street styles. She joined Mix’d Ingrdnts in 2011 and since then, had the opportunity to perform at SFIHHDF, Oaktoberfest, MoAD SF, and many other community events. She  recently presented solo work at SF DIGGS Deeper and made it to top 4 at The GroovMekanex 16th Anniversary Jam. When Gladys is not training, she is a full time online marketing specialist.

Jeremy Harris – Set Designer

Jeremy is an Oakland-based architect and designer. He has 12 years of classical art and Architecture experience, including a BA in Architecture and Environmental Design (University of California, Berkeley). His designs have been seen and published throughout the bay area, including numerous theatrical productions in San Francisco. Previous theatrical set designs include SF Playhouse’s world premiere of Seven Days (Daniel Heath), Reunion (Ken Rabin); Musical productions include Climate Theater’s Man of Rock, the Musical (Daniel Heath), Spring Break, the Musical (Sara Alterman).

Marisa Aragona – Photographer/Set Designer

Marisa has worked extensively in the Bay Area arts community as an artist, activist, curator and educator for over 10 years. Her photo-based work and installations have been exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Oakland, Washington DC, Seattle and Vilnius Lithuania. Marisa grew up outside of Washington DC and received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2005 and her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2000.  Marisa lives and works in San Francisco where she teaches photography.

Marcus Salinas – Graphic Designer

As a child inspired by classic art, comic books, and graffiti; with a mixture of music and dance, Marcus has fulfilled his dream of being a full-time Artist/Designer right out of college.  With 15 years under the belt as a Graphic Designer Marcus has produced some of the very best logo and design work in the Chicago/Midwest area, not to mention extending his services to the Bay Area. Some of his work has even gone international. He is a leading designer with top notch quality and an upbeat modern twist.  Some of his clients include  Toyota Scion, Ultimate Athletics and a number of local Chicago based companies.  As the Owner and Creator of Subliminal77 Custom Logo & Design,  Marcus lives out his creative dreams both day and night. 

Briana Gardener - Photographer/Stylist/Web Designer

Briana was born on the East Coast, but raised on the West - and has so much love for the Bay. Majoring in Computer Science, she hoped to use engineering creatively to empower and develop community. 

 

Along with the usual free-lance shoots (weddings, portraits, models, the works), Briana has photographed and/or styled for ThirstyThread, NuLEAF Technologies (affiliated with ASL and NASA), KAYU Design, Big Mug Coffee Roasters, Treasured Prints, Leah Staley, and Co-Spot. 

Gail Burks – Production Assistant/Stage Manager

Gail Burks, also known as G-Funk, is a Bay Area transplant who hails from Chicago.  Her passion for  dance began at an early age through watching music videos by Michael and Janet Jackson, and it continues to grow stronger by the day through performing, choreographing, teaching, and competing in battles.  While mainly training in Locking, Waacking, and West African, she has also studied other styles of dance such as Katherine Dunham Dance Technique and Voguing.  Gail had the honor of dancing in Mix’d Ingrdnts’ Waacking performance workshop for their first production titled Breaking the Silence, being a company member for 2 years, and serving as one of the teachers for the company’s Waacking class.  She is beyond excited to be a part of the production team for In Between the Seams!

 

Gail has performed at a variety of venues and events including Edison Theatre at Washington University in St. Louis, Bay Area Diggs Deeper, San Francisco Hip-Hop International Dancefest, City Dance Onstage, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, SHAFTED:  The Blaqxsploitation Project, the San Francisco World Percussion Arts Festival, and more.  In addition, she is also a member of the San Francisco-based Duniya Dance & Drum Company.
